What We'll Be Doing July 7th...

http://www.japanupdate.com/loverock07/

A Japanese Led Zeppelin cover band, Japanese Jimi Hendrix, and "Kween" are performing, to name a few.

My Math Sucks

It's noonish on Friday PST now (4am Saturday morning here). I can't do 16 hours of subtraction. And I can't tell which button is "edit" on this page on this computer, so I can't fix the "to" that should be "too" and yes that will bug the crap out of me.

:o)

We're Awake - Like It Or Not

Yeah, jet lag is weird. It's pitch black out at 3:30 and Mia starts singing. (7:30 at night in our heads) And so - we're up.

I remembered I wanted to mention that Rich said that cell phones are prohibitively expensive here, so we probably won't get them. (He may have one provided by work, and maybe I will to if I work at some point - but we won't get them on our own.)

Today we'll need to get some sunblock, and some breakfast food to have (no milk & cereal). Last night I read the local paper (Japan Update) and a cool local magazine - Okinawa Outdoors. Amazing pictures and advertisements. Lots of restaurant ads and even a little Japanese lesson (beer is be-ru in Japanese, valuable to know). Craig tells me that this island isn't even as big as San Diego county, so hopefully it won't take too long to navigate the areas I'll need to get around.

I'll get a registration packet for Mia's kindergarten from Kristina soon too. Her husband worked with Craig back at Miramar and he's deployed right now. Her daughter, Leah, will be in kindergarten in the fall too, and she has kindly offered to have the girls hang out while we do the grown-up type stuff that we need to (like the welcome brief, getting our driver's licenses and shopping for cars/apartments).

Curious to see when we pass out tonight. We'll all try to stay up as late as we can. More later if I think of something, and we'll try to get some pictures up here too.

We Have Arrived!

Ok - this is weird - I wish I could show you, but since we're in Japan now - a lot of the text that's supposed to appear on this page isn't there- just empty squares. So bear with me.

First weirdo thing - driving on the left - I seriously almost smacked Rich when he made a right turn because he pulled around on the far side and I figured right into oncoming traffic.

Also - I am just waiting for the jet lag. Poor Mia literally walked into the glass doors of our lodge when we came in b/c she was so tired. We will be hitting the wall very soon.

Mia was INCREDIBLY good on the trip here, so many hours on a plane - we got compliments on her behavior. We're lucky in that respect, and it made this whole thing much easier.

So we're in our room - we've put away our clothing in the drawers & closet provided. It's like a small efficiency apartment, but it'll do for the few weeks until we find a place. Rich was telling us that it kind of sucks because since the Military's pay is public knowledge, the rental people know exactly how much you can spend and eek every dime out of you. But whatever- it's good to know someone who's already here and can advise us on matters like this. He's already been an amazing help.

Ok, we just ordered food from (get this) Macaroni Grill which is down the block from where we are! HA! Just want a hot meal and we're trying to stay up as late as we can. I'm going to jump in the shower and wash off the plane ickies and the humidity sweat. (tomorrow- party cloudy & 88 degrees.... guaranteed humid) Good night!
